The American Film Institute was founded in 1967. It's original Board of Trustees included, among others,  Gregory Peck (Chair), Sidney Poitier (Vice Chair), Francis Ford Coppola, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., and Jack Valenti. It is located in Los Angeles.
